Judge: Ari Banias
Submissions will be accepted May 1 to June 30, 2021.
Submit 18-24 pages of poetry, including a list of acknowledgments. Your name and contact information should not appear anywhere in the manuscript.
A $15 entry fee must be paid at the time of submission.
Simultaneous submissions are fine, but please let us know immediately if your manuscript has been accepted elsewhere.
Former students, colleagues, and friends of the judge are not eligible to enter the contest. Ineligible entries will be disqualified and entry fees returned as appropriate.
All manuscripts will be read by the Burnside Review Press editors. At least ten finalists will be sent to the judge.
The winner will receive $200, plus ten copies of the chapbook.
Results will be announced in October.
We only accept submissions through our online submission manager. Work sent by any other means will not be read.
About the Judge:
Ari Banias is the author of A Symmetry (W.W. Norton & Co., October 2021) and Anybody (W.W. Norton & Co., 2016), a finalist for the Kate Tufts Discovery Award and the PEN Center USA Award. His recent work appears in Hyperallergic, The Nation, and We Want It All: An Anthology of Radical Trans Poetics (Nightboat Books, 2020). The recipient of fellowships from MacDowell, Headlands Center for the Arts, and Stanford’s Wallace Stegner program, he lives in Oakland.
